About Shelby
Shelby Thorn is the heart and hands behind Shelby Thorn Animal Behaviour. Her passion for animal welfare began at just fifteen when she was employed by RSPCA Victoria, gaining hands-on experience in various areas and developing a deep understanding of animal care, welfare, and complex case management. It wasn’t long before her own practice emerged. Over the past decade, she has continued her work in animal behaviour with the Lost Dogs Home, Blue Cross Animal Society, Petbarn, and Animal Aid. Today, Shelby works alongside a vibrant community of dog trainers and animal care professionals, collaborating on behaviour modification training plans for both shelter animals and private clients. She also shares her knowledge by educating other pet professionals through staff training sessions and seminars.
At the core of Shelby’s approach is a commitment to compassionate, evidence-based practices that create positive, stress-free learning experiences. She believes in fostering a deep connection between animals and their humans through a holistic approach and positive training methods, always aiming to bring harmony and trust into every relationship.
Shelby’s commitment to lifelong learning ensures she stays up-to-date with the latest research and techniques. Through her work, she empowers pet owners to create environments of compassion, understanding, and stability for both their animals and themselves.
What makes Shelby’s services truly unique is her deep devotion to the human side of the leash, stemming from her studies in psychological science, social work, and nutrition. As a qualified Mental Health Practitioner and Yoga Teacher, she integrates her other passions into her business, offering yoga classes and a range of health and wellness services that blend all aspects of her expertise into one harmonious space.
Outside of work, Shelby embraces a cruelty-free, plant-based lifestyle. She enjoys outdoor activities like hiking and camping with her partner, catching some waves, or unwinding with a good book and a glass of red wine. Shelby shares her home with a loving mix of adopted rescue animals, who are cherished members of her family.
